Mummy Stuff

End of term madness is turning me into a wreck…

This post is all about me and my mummy woes. I’m hormonal this week and sleep deprived so please bear with me! I find the penultimate week to the end of term a nightmare usually at the best of times but this year I feel beat.

Firstly I think I may have slept through 6 months of the year, which is ironic when I haven’t had a full night’s sleep for over a year now due to late pregnancy discomfort  and the arrival of Florence and her determination to co-sleep! So I’m not mentally ready for a child to be leaving primary school, and my little girl to not be the youngest in Junior school. I’m at least saved from Teddy staying in nursery for another year! I just feel that the older I’m getting the quicker these years are flying in and I’m finding it hard to keep track of the months.

Secondly I’m totally disorganised with so many parties, plays, sports days, costumes, show and tell, forest day clothes etc to remember, my head is bursting! I should be more organised and have written several lists, but when I have information overload I just can’t face writing another one. Procrastination I know, but it’s just happened this way this year that I’m running around without a list so stopping to write more lists just hasn’t happened- apart from a blog list and to do vlogging list.

Thirdly I decided to give birth to 3 of my 4 children at the end if different terms! Daisy being Christmas Eve, Finlay usually at the end of the Spring Easter term and Teddy at the end of term, so currently I still need to get myself into gear and buy presents, wrapping paper and do the ritual of making an elaborate cake of their choice!

Fourthly I have a week to go and not one teacher present purchased! Having 3 of them in school/nursery and buying for teachers and TA’s means I should be ordering them right now. Who started this ritual of teacher purchasing and why do we feel the urge/pressured to join in? Dougie’s response is just don’t do it (they get paid…) and especially for the times when you might not want to purchase for a certain member of staff who you haven’t gelled with that year! But no, every year I either make or purchase a thoughtful gift for these people having to put up with my child most of the year.  I add to my growing end of term list by including gifts for  the very deserving volunteers who give up their free time at Scouts/Cubs etc.

Then lastly, yes lastly my moanings are coming to an end.. I have a family wedding to attend at the other end of the country the day after the last day of term! I can’t wait to catch up with all my family and visit the South and the sunshine but I really wish I had just a week of rest before the event. I will be the guest where my kids look pristine (despite their dark circles eyes from the end of term madness) and I will be the one who didn’t have time to get a haircut, have their nails nicely manicured and never had time to shop for a dress that doesn’t look like a breastfeeding tent!

I now feel better at least for this rant of a blog post and hope this can resonate to every harrasssd end of term mummy right now who’s resorting to fish fingers yet again, getting to the school gates with a minute to spare and throwing their daughter’s knotty hair into yet another pony tail!  I should be writing lists instead of blogging and shopping for a dress instead of feeling sorry for myself but heh this is real life and we should post about the honest ramblings as well as the Waltons or Von trapp moments of family life!

I still have two weeks of the school holidays to childmind and my break in August is still a while off so for now please pass the wine….

  1. Wow you certainly sound busy in the run up to the end of term, and I’m not surprised that you’re loosing your mind a little bit, especially with all four of them. It’ll be over soon, and I hope you have a fab summer break. Thanks for linking up at #fortheloveofBLOG. Claire x
