TeamStein’s Oreo Cookie Quest Treasure Hunt!

Have you heard about the Oreo Cookie Quest?  It’s a fun and interactive way to win great prizes and there is also an opportunity to win a once in a lifetime trip to California and the Googleplex through their on-pack promotion.  All you have to do is grab some Oreo packs and download an easy app that you can then use to scan promotional packs to see what you can win.

So we heard that Britmums were challenging influencers to take part in their own Oreo Cookie Quest and to capture a day out with the reward of eating some Oreos. We asked the kids if they wanted to take part and of course it was a resounding ‘yes of course we love Oreos!’

As we have had some quite chilly dreary weather we discussed whether to have a day out at a local museum in York (as there are plenty to choose from) or brave the chill and hunt outdoors.  My kids love a treasure hunt, they are keen geocachers and always look forward to egg hunting outside whatever the weather at Easter.  We chose to visit our local National Trust home and take the Oreos along with us as a Sunday afternoon treat.

As we’ve been struck with plenty of snow, I knew that the ground was still wet, so I popped the Oreos (a serving of 2 each is plenty) into a snack bag, so they could be kept dry when hidden amongst the garden.  As we have four children they can be really competitive with each other, sometimes leading to the little ones losing out, so we decided to pitch the hunt a little differently. It was such a success and good family team work, that we will repeat this on other days out.

I chose a child to be the hider and they went and hid 1 treat bag for another chosen member of the family ( whilst we all tried hard not to cheat and peek!)  We all then got to help / watch the hunter go off and find their own treat.

The hider helped them out by offering hot/cold clues to make it slightly easier.

I especially enjoyed hiding Dougie my husbands treat bag and not giving him enough clues!   There was honestly no arguments or tears and everyone got their own treat and we all helped each other.  We will definitely do this again to keep the kids entertained and as a family of 6 bringing our own biscuits out with us is a great way to budget on a day out and have an occasional tasty treat.

What a great idea – anything to help with competitive arguments wins for me! I agree taking snacks out helps loads, especially as buying snacks is so expensive! Thanks for linking this to #thursdayteam
