A Really Wild Update #30 Days Wild

Heart hands @Dani Cox
I promised an update on what we’ve been doing for 30 days wild and this week I got to thinking that these types of activities are the reason I started my blog in the first place. I have since taken different directions and discussions of various topics of our family life but the great outdoors and our little everyday adventures in it are just one of my happiest things to write about.

We have come up with a few different ways to embrace our wilder side and nature adventures this month to help tick off our chart everyday.

First off I have to be organised with everything these days, especially in a busy summer term.  So I have made up a nature pack for us to use grab and go outside with over the coming months.  I thought I would share with you what we have in it.

To put things in I used a mesh bargain pencil case from Home bargains.  I hunted around our home for things to fill it.  I popped in to the bag a ladybird bug book suitable for Teddy and a RSPB wildlife handbook for us older ones. I have some poly pockets that are filled with printables. I’m addicted to scavenger hunts on Pinterest at the moment so there are some of my favourites on my board at the moment. These save me a few pennies from buying so many spotter books and give me inspiration/prompts for the kids.   Also in my poly pockets are their 50 things to do before your 11 3/4 books.  I also included plain paper and crayons for any bark or leaf rubbings they may want to do. Lastly packed is the all important pair of binoculars and any little view finder pot for bug collecting.

This month we have done a beach scavenger hunt and found many treasures including fossils, crabs and lots of beach treasure.  We also took the opportunity to pick up some washed up plastic to recycle.  We’ve also done a simple scavenger hunt with the little ones and we spotted lots of bumble bees, fish and plenty of flora from our local NT garden.

Some very simple garden activities we have done in the last week include making daisy chains before they were mown down by Dougie.  Finding lots of snails all over the walls and pathway in a short down pour of rain. Trying to revive what we thought was a very interesting large moth which turned out to be a may bug or the correct term I have been told by Dougie is Cockchafer!   We have listened to the evening song of the birds at sunset and were pleased to watch the swifts darting about feeding on insects.  We also took the opportunity in the warm weather to paint what we could see outside in the garden. I love them being messy outside and it being warm enough to paint in just a nappy makes it easier and far less messy.

What have you being doing that’s wild recently? And are you taking part in the challenge? We have forgotten to do the odd day but then we have made up for it by finding more than one wild thing in a day!

I love Home Bargains and am so pleased we have one in our county. Those mesh bags are great. We’ve been doing lots regarding the challenge. From weather activities to making up our own nature pack too. #CoolMumClub
