Are You Making These Top Living Room Mistakes? Find out Here

If you want your living room to look the part, you will want to try and avoid some major mistakes when styling your living room. If these common mistakes aren’t taken into consideration the room could end up never looking as good as it could, but in reality, all of this could be avoided by following these tips on what to avoid.

Pushing your Sofa against the Wall

A common mistake that often bugs interior designers is having a living room that has every piece of furniture pushed right against the wall. While this may seem like a bit of a logical way for you to make your small living room feel big, it can do the opposite. When all of your furniture is pushed to the sides of the room, it can have a bit of a limiting effect. One way for you to work around this would be for you to pull the sofa a few inches closer. A little bit of space can make a major difference here, so make sure that you give this some serious thought.

Buying the Wrong Rug

An area rug can be a fantastic way for you to anchor your living room. It can provide a visual resting place and it can also give you a bit of a framework to work around too. With that in mind, when anchoring your furniture, you do need to make sure that you strategically place your rug. The size of the rug you end up going for will depend on your personal preference. With that in mind though, you do need to make sure that it is visible enough so it creates a drastic statement.

Pair some of the hues from the rug with your other soft furnishings and also make sure that you give some thought to how everything ties together. If you can do this then you are bound to get the look you’re going for overall.

Hanging Curtains Too Low

If you have Roman blinds then this isn’t something you have to worry about. If you have curtains however then you have to make sure that you do not hang them too low.  This is a major mistake but at the same time, it’s very easy to correct. Fixing the curtain rail so that it is slightly above the window frame will help a lot here. When you do put your curtains up, make sure that you take into account how much light the room is letting in. If you have a small living room then it could be wise for you to fit a track or a pole that is wider than the window itself. If you can do this then you will be able to draw the curtains right to the border of the frame so that you can let the most light in.
So, are you making these mistakes with your living room? If so then now is the time for you to rectify that. If you don’t then you may find that your home never feels quite as good as it could, and that you are constantly being held back which is the last thing you need when you’re investing good money in your design.
