The first Autumn leaves are falling, the blackberries are dwindling, the dark nights are drawing in, candles are lit and blankets adorn our sofas once more… This means we can start thinking about where to pick our pumpkins this Autumn! We love picking weird and wonderful gourds and squashes to eat and carve so grab your wellies and pick a patch to visit from our list of best pumpkin picking in Devon 2023!

*Please note that all these pumpkin patches are reliant on the weather and popularity so please check their social media pages for updates on opening times etc..*

Pips Pick Your Own

Kitley Farm, Yealmpton, Plymouth, PL8 2LT

Pips is in such a beautiful area of Devon, close to the river Dart and next to the fab Ben’s farm shop. This year they have some wonderful varieties such as the Polar bear, warty goblin and custard squash to name a few… Open from 10am-5pm from the 1st October. Pips have also added a trick-or-treat shop. There are toilet facilities, along with picnic benches, a selection of small animals and a large car park. “Ben’s Farm Shop” & “Grower’s Organic Plant Centre” are both located by the entrance to the Pick Your Own.

Pennywell Farm

The 2023 Pumpkin Festival at Pennywell includes…

Many varieties of pumpkins, pumpkin games, a pumpkin trail, countless photo opportunities, live music and marshmallow toasting on the weekends and half term. If you’re looking for a full farm experience as well as pumpkin picking then this full farm day out will not disappoint!

Open 7 days a week 9am-4pm. Prices range from free to under 2s up to 19.95 for an adult.

Devon Pumpkin Picking have plenty of refreshments, pumpkins and wheelbarrows ready for you to enjoy. No dogs allowed. They have two pumpkin picking sites and also available is professional photography (see website for details)

With over 50 types of pumpkins and squashes to choose from, photo opportunities, activities such as a dino maize maze and on-site food and beverages. Jolly Pumpkins is more than just a pumpkin patch! Open 10am-5pm (last entry 4pm) 7th,8th,14th,15th21st through to 29th October

Ticket prices are £1.50 for ages 3 years plus – Includes entry to the maze and the patch.

Orway Porch Farm

Orway Porch Farm, Kentisbeare, Cullompton, EX15 2EY

Now this is a patch to visit when you want to include your favourite four-legged friends, as this year they have a cordoned-off area for your dog to experience pumpkin picking! Orway has 15 varieties of pumpkins with easy access via the hard-standing matting leading you from car to patch. They have picnic benches, refreshments, farm animals and photo opportunities.

Open 10am-4pm 14th,15th, 21st – 29th October with free entry.

Pick-your-own pumpkins to take home & carve! Head to the Tipis on the front field, get your instructions from a member of staff & have fun picking your own pumpkins on the pumpkin patch! 

Once you have your pumpkin we can highly recommend heading inside for a good choice of food and drink and do some farm shop shopping or simply play in the park outside and make use of the picnic benches!

Coming soon – keep checking their website 10am – 4:30pm. Please note, booking is not required and price will vary depending on the size of the pumpkins you pick.

Strawberry Fields

A spectacular pumpkin patch with thousands of homegrown pumpkins for you to choose from, again plenty of photo opportunities, whimsical scarecrows, an award-winning magician, a barrel train adventure and a pirate maize maze.

prices start from £2.50 and maze tickets are sold separately with discounts available.

South Devon Farm

Nestled in the heart of the picturesque South Hams, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and right on the coast, you will find Terawhiti Farm and the enchanting South Devon Pumpkin Patch!  

​Terawhiti is a small family-run farm that primarily grows veg. So whether it’s big ones, small ones, warty ones, pumpkins with stripes or white ones they have it all! Thousands and thousands of pumpkins, and over twenty-five varieties, are waiting in our patch to be chosen, carved or even eaten. The farm has a barrel ride, bale run, face painting and old-fashioned games to participate in. Food and beverages will also be available.

Open only on the 7th/8th 14th/15th of October 10am-4pm Pumpkins ranging from 50p upwards, entry is free and some activities will incur a cost.

Surfing Cow

Surfing Cow Ice Cream, South Battisborough Farm PL8 1JY Plymouth

This award-winning ice cream parlour will be re-opening for spooky season on 7th/8th, 14th/15th and 21st/22nd October. The Pumpkin Patch will be open for PYO and you can stay late every Saturday for a Torchlight Maize Maze. You don’t need to book for Pumpkin PYO – just turn up and pay for the pumpkins you pick.

Visit their FB page to book for the Saturday Torchlight Maize Maze sessions – £5 per person (+15p booking fee). Every child will also receive a Halloween-themed goodie bag

Dogs on leads are welcome (but not for the evening maize maze, sorry)

Braunton Pumpkin Patch

Returning to the pumpkin business after a year off. This patch in North Devon is open from 21st-28th 10am-4pm free entry and well-behaved dogs on leads are also welcome. Check their Facebook page for more information.
