Celebrating the little things in February!

Living Arrows 2018 (6/53)

This project took it’s name from a poem by Kahlil Gibran, “You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth”. Living Arrows is my new weekly go-to link up, run by Donna at What the Redhead Said, and so what a perfect way to document and reflect on our family moments than what has partly become my online journal.

Last week wasn’t particularly an exciting week, just a week that saw January eventually turn into February, a week where Dougie worked all 7 days, and I have been busy finding ways to keep on top of as much life admin as possible. That said in the weeks where it’s quiet and nothing much happens you can find small victories that mean a lot to the people involved.

I have tried my hardest to add/ substitute fruit and vegetables into baking and cooking.  I tried out steaming a butternut squash and then stirring the mashed squash into cheese pasta. Daisy is our fussy eater, the one that refuses still to eat any form of unpureed fruit and the one who can spot a fleck of green in anything!   After picking her way through her dinner for the first few moments whilst I sat in silence, unnervingly staring at her, she ate the meal without spotting the squash.  A silent smug victory for me!

The next little parenting win was again from Daisy. If you don’t know my fun loving but stubborn nine year old, you won’t know that she didn’t have much hair until she was 3 and that she can’t bear it to be brushed properly, even now. She can wail at the mere sight of a hairbrush/tangle teaser coming towards her knotty barnet.  She really is a tough cookie on many levels but just cannot cope with her hair being brushed or styled in anything more than a simple very low ponytail.   So to have her come to me and ask me to do pigtails after all these years of pressing her to try just 2 plaits, was pretty darn momentous for me!

So you see that these are both small victories but two small victories worth celebrating! Happy February folks!

I would definitely be celebrating too. It must be so hard having such a fussy eater so I bet any meal that is eaten without protest is stored in your memory to have again in the future. And her hair looks beautiful – I hope she lets you style it – or even just brush it – more in future x
