The Benefits of School Trips for Children

Some of our fondest memories of school take us back to the trips we took, whether they were for educational purposes or just a treat for working hard throughout the year. However, enjoyment and lifelong memories aren’t the only benefits of school trips, as explored below by an independent boys’ school in London…

Improves Independence

Children are rarely given a chance to spend time away from their parents or the rules and regulations of school, which doesn’t allow them to explore their independence.

School residential trips give them this opportunity, because they have to take care of themselves to a certain degree with self-care in the morning when spending a few days away from home.

Encourages Bonding

Traditional lessons don’t provide a lot of leeway for socialising and bonding with peers, which is one of the reasons why school trips are so advantageous.

They’re a chance for children to bond, not only with their classmates, but also with their teachers. This is important because when they return to the classroom, they may feel more comfortable speaking up and engaging in discussions.

What’s more, by getting to know their students on a more intimate level, teachers are better able to understand what makes them tick and how they can support them in class.

Brings Lessons to Life

Not all kids thrive by reading textbooks and listening to the teacher talk. Some prefer more hands-on learning because it allows them to visualise and experience the subject material, which is far more memorable. Going on a school trip enables students to take good interest in studies which they earlier didn’t understand.

Students get into new experiences as while traveling outside they learn about different professions, ideas & opportunities. There’s only so much that can be taught in the four walls of a classroom.

Increases Motivation

We all need to be enriched and entertained from time to time, particularly children who become bored easily and need to be inspired. School trips are motivational in that sense, because they give kids an opportunity to have some fun whilst they learn.

It can awaken student’s enthusiasm to learn and get new learning information, regardless of how exhausting or boring the subject is in theory.

They can also be used as a reward for good behaviour and hard work in the classroom, which is a great motive for children to try their best.

Improves Self Confidence

Students experiencing another country and culture, enjoying new foods and seeing different landscapes on a school trip can become more confident and open to new things and opportunities.
