5 Stress-Busting Tips for Busy Parents

Do you feel as though you are always busy and stressed? Work commitments, endless household chores, and parenting can become a tricky juggle at times. It’s so easy to feel like you don’t have enough time in the day to get everything done and before you know it, you can fall into the trap of not prioritising your own basic needs, leaving yourself with little / no time to do the things that matter to you as a person. This can all have a significant impact on your own mental health. On days and weeks when the juggle and struggle is real make sure to try and practice these 5 stress-busting tips for busy parents.

Drink Lots of Water

Dehydration can have a major impact on your body. Lack of water can lead to fatigue, lack of energy, headaches, and more. You may also find that it leaves you feeling weary and worn out. If you want to do something about this then make sure that you take a bottle of water with you, every time you leave the house. If you can do this then you will encourage yourself to drink while on the go.

When sitting or traveling to take/watch your child at after-school clubs, simply fill up a water bottle for yourself as well as your child. You will thank yourself when you return home well-hydrated!

Stay Away from Sugary Snacks

When you’re tired, hungry or both you may be tempted to reach for pre-packaged cookies, sugary snacks, and unhealthy foods. Focusing on maintaining a healthy diet when you have a busy schedule isn’t easy but with just a little planning it is possible. Nutritious food will also give you more energy and it will help you to feel better within yourself. For example, having some protein balls / healthy oat bars made up in batches and frozen ready for busy weeks are really helpful.

Get out of the House

Make sure that you get out for even just a short walk around the block every day. You can find a lot of joy from walking aound the neighbourhood and noticing seaosnal changes aroumd you. It helps clear a busy mind. Maye listen to an audiobook or podcats at the smae time. By doing this, and by getting some fresh air, you can help yourself to reduce fatigue while calming your mind.

Laugh

Your life will undoubtedly bring you stress sometimes. If you want to do something about this then one thing you need to do is see the bright side of things.

There are always unforeseen, stressful moments For example lockinging your keys inside your car. There will always be an answer; such as being able to look up locksmiths in your local area to get the issue sorted. Remember that every problem has a solution. Just by trying to remind yourself to smile, laugh and see the positives really will help you to see the silver lining to stressful situations.

Ask for Support

There is a reason why we use the saying ‘It takes a village to raise a child’. Don’t be afraid to reach out and ask for support if you truly need it. Even if it’s something simple, like asking a friend to have the kids for an hour, or asking your parents to drop off some shopping. Things like this can help you to unwind and it can also help you to get some much-needed you-time. If you don’t feel as though you have a good support network then now could be the time for you to change that. Explore external options such as babysitting or dog-walking services, so you can get the help you need.

I know that these 5 stress-busting tips for busy parents at first glance can seem really obvious but at busy periods of life all of these factors can easily be overlooked and life can take it’s toll. Hopefully by reading these suggestions you will now be on the path to being more mindful of your own needs going forward. We would love to hear any suggestions you have for taking care of your well being?
