50th Celebrations with Living Arrows 17/52 (2021)

This week has been all about 50th celebrations! Dougie turned 50 on Tuesday and so its been a crazy busy week making sure we could make it special when we were limited with options!

First off his birthday fell on a Tuesday when we were both working, so that made it trickier to make the 50th celebrations exciting. We had a nice breakfast whilst he opened his cards. He didn’t have many gifts to open as all the family have clubbed together to buy him a paddle board. We’re all looking forward to that arriving (it’s on a delivery delay, like a lot of things at the moment).

He finished work a little earlier and we took our kids and my mindees to play foot golf at Dougie’s request. They all enjoyed doing something different after school albeit Florence was a little crazy on the course! After footgolf we had a nice family meal and cake that his mum had bought for him.

Dougie took Wednesday off work and we went for a lovely walk together with Florence to Castle Howard during school hours. It was nice to just have Florence and they spent lots of time in the park together whilst I sat quietly with Rusty!

In-between the birthday celebrations Florence and I enjoyed some time together at our local farm. It was so lovely to see her enjoying being back there. She could have happily payed in the sand all day!

At the weekend Dougie was keen on camping in the garden and going on a hike. I classed the weekend as part of his 50th celebrations so who was I to argue! It was pretty cold in the tent but we made it through the night and the little two slept until an unheard of 9am!

We climbed Roseberry Topping on Sunday. It’s a National Trust site steeped in history and is known as the Yorkshire Matterhorn. Dougie has been wanting to walk up it for over 2 years now, so he was pleased we made time for it this week.

The kids and Dougie were like mountain goats quickly ascending and descending and I was more like the elderly Nanny goat taking my time and feeling sorry for my aching legs! We had a friend’s dog for the day so he joined us and it seemed pretty apt as he’s a Swiss mountain dog.

I canโ€™t believe that heโ€™s 50, the years have sped by so fast! I really hope that Dougie will get to have a few more 50th celebrations with family etc and also some fun outings on his paddleboard this summer. For now I’m tired after this busy birthday week. I’m just not used to this slightly faster pace of life yet!
