Effective Long-Lasting Home Decor Tips

Getting the home decor right can really take some research and time to achieve the right look. Given the average cost of around £2,000 to decorate a room, it makes sense to use some effective long-lasting home decor tips like the ones below.

Invest in Quality Items

One of the key considerations when decorating is the cost versus the quality of items. It often makes sense to get the best you can afford. But this isn’t always possible. However, there are excellent services that can provide you with quality at a lower cost than you think. For example, made to measure shutters using good materials such as solid wood will last a very long time with proper care and maintenance, reducing the need for replacements long term. We invested in shutters for our house under a year ago and have never regretted the investment. It has made such a difference to the look of the house and has definitely added to the value of our family home.

Keep the Pets Off the Furniture

We all love our pets dearly. Dogs, cats, lizards, whatever. But as much as our pets provide us with what we need, they are also the worst possible thing for your furniture. Claws will all but destroy a couch within a couple of years. And if your dog isn’t house-trained, then forget about your lovely new carpet. However, it can be relatively easy to keep pets off furniture with the right training.

Long Lasting Home Decor Requires Good Habits

Keeping your pets off the new furniture is a habit you must break both on your part and theirs. But there are also other habits that can wreck your stuff, meaning you will need to replace them. For instance, it is convenient and fun to eat a pizza while watching a Netflix show. But why did you buy a new dining table? Further, it is only a matter of time before you drop a greasy slice onto the carpet or your new sofa. It’s best to use your furniture for what they are designed for.

Use Neutral Colours and Materials

Most people redecorate every three to four years. This is fine for them. But for others, this can feel pretty quick. And spending a lot of money on decorating every few years isn’t doable for most. But small changes can go a long way, such as hanging pictures, rearranging the furniture, and changing textures. To do this effectively, you can save some money by using neutrals when you redecorate. This way, anything you add will match the base colours and materials.

Install Everything Correctly

You can spend a lot of time working out where to place your new furniture. And once it’s in and looking great, the last thing you need is to be pulling them out again. This increases the chances of damaging something and is just plain annoying. So to keep costs down, ensure you get it right the first time. Think about where you want to place everything in relation to your needs. And ensure you manage any wires properly, such as the TV and internet modem cables.

Summary

Effective long-lasting home decor tips are possible to achieve with some simple tricks and tweaks. It does however really help to buy good quality in the first instance and make savings in areas such as painting walls yourself.
