One of the reasons why many parents choose to send their children to nursery is to socialise them with other kids their age. This is an important part of their development; if they only ever spend time with their mum or dad for the first few years of their life, they will struggle when it comes to making friends with other children. Nursery is a great way for them to develop skills such as communication, sharing, and taking turns etc.

There are usually more learning resources at nursery than at home, as well as qualified staff who a trained in teaching that age group. As a result, nursery arguably provides more opportunities for children to learn and develop various skills.

Starting school can feel very daunting for children, as well as their parents. Is the Time Right to Send My Child to Nursery?

Of course, knowing the benefits of sending your child to nursery doesn’t necessarily help you determine if the time is right. The truth is, there is no straightforward answer to this. There are nurseries all over the country that will accept children from as young as three months, and some pre-schools that won’t accept children unless they are over the age of two.

It might help your child if you slowly introduce them to nursery, perhaps by starting with parent and baby classes. You should also practise various skills at home to prepare your child, such as potty training and self-care, as well as independent feeding and dressing.

Ultimately, it comes down to your instinct. You know your child better than anyone, so only you can make the decision. Visit a few nurseries before you come to a conclusion, as your gut will probably tell you whether or not it’s the right place for your little one.
