Slow Autumn Weekend with Living Arrows 42/52

“You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth”. After a tiring penultimate week of term I wanted us to have a slow weekend. I also wanted us to have a few hours outdoors. We have reached tier 2 in York and so it has made me want to make the most of the nice Autumn weather and get outdoors for a few hours at a time.

On Saturday Dougie stayed home to bake with the girls and I had a lovely few quality hours with just Teddy. I never seem to have him all to myself, so these hours were really precious to me. He asked if he could visit a local independent lego shop to build a lego mini figure and look at the Star Wars mini figures. We then went for cake and a drink in the garden centre and we looked around the aquatic centre. It was so good to hear all his news without interruptions. He’s at such a lovely age and is really good company.

We spent Sunday morning outdoors as a family before Dougie went away for a few days. We went to our usual spot of Castle Howard as we couldn’t get any pre-booked slots to the Yorkshire Arboretum as I had left it too late.

We were all glad we went to the playpark as it was decorated for Halloween and they had a new addition of a fire pit for toasting marshmallows. The kids loved it and want to return again in the holidays. We took Rusty with us even though he hasn’t had his last jabs. He got carried a lot to keep him safe and spent most of his time trying to get down!

Days wrapped up outdoors with warm picnics are going to be how we spend our slow autumn/ winter weekends. I think keeping them up will be key to keeping us all sane, plus if we do end up in lockdown we can at least say we have had some fun days out whilst we can!

I hope you’re all keeping well and are either enjoying the half term break or looking forward to finishing on Friday like we are!
