Here is another reading update for the kids. Like last time, Finlay and Daisy have written their own take on their recent reads.
Finlay Aged 12
The Hobbit JRR Tolkien
An exciting fantasy novel that feels impossible to put down. Bilbo Baggins the main character started off just as a plain old hobbit who doesn’t like excitement. By the end of the book Bilbo has had the adventure of a lifetime in the whole of middle earth facing his nightmares. He has the adventure of his life. I think that this is a trickier read for experienced readers from age 11 to adults.
I’m reading next – Lord of the Rings JRR Tolkien ,The Chase – Linwood Barclay , The Polar Bear Explorers Club by Alex Bell, Fish Boy by Chloe Daykin and the Guiness Book of records 2018.
Daisy Aged 9
Violet Series
Violet and the smugglers / Violet and the Hidden Treasure / Violet and the pearl of the Orient / Violet- Mummy Mysteries
Violet is an adventurous girl who lives in London who loves to go around the word and solve secret mysteries. Violet is brave, daring and smart. I like these books because they are exciting as she meets danger along the way. I think both girls and boys who like adventures and mysteries would love these books. I would recommend these books to good readers aged 7 to 12. I borrowed all but one of these from the library, the other was a Birthday gift.
I’m reading next – Wave Goodbye by Jaqueline Wilson, Famous Five go to Treasure Island by Enid Blyton, The Nowhere Emporium by Ross Mackenzie.

Teddy Aged 5– The Faraway Tree
Teddy has such a big imagination and although he’s on the young side for this book, he’s really enjoying listening to the capers of the folk that live up the faraway tree. A childhood classic of mine, slightly tweaked to be a little more pc. It’s fun reliving the adventures of the enchanted wood with a host of pixies, fairies and fun folk. If you’re not familiar with this Enid Blyton classic (where have you been!) Four children move to the country and stumble across this magical tree in the Enchanted Wood and with the help of the tree folk they adventure in the strange lands that appear at the top of the tree.
Look inside the Human Body by Usborne – One of those lift the flap general knowledge books for all those tricky questions that I keep being asked by Teddy about how his body works!
Florence Aged 24 Months
I forgot just how at age 1 they love hearing the same book over and over agin. So her favourites at the moment and are on repeat most nights are Hairy McClairy by Lynley Dodd and I am a Bunny by Richard Scarry.
Hairy McClairy is a bit of a wimpy wispy black dog and featuring Zachary Quack a mischievous duck who is teasing poor old Hairy! The rhyming verse always makes Florence giggle.
I am a Bunny is a firm favourite as it’s all her favourite things to spot in a book. Nicholas the bunny goes through all the seasons in this beautifully illustrated book, with plenty of flora and fauna to spot and count.
