“You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth” It’s been half term for us and so we have spent the end of October all together as even Dougie had a week off. We didn’t have many plans as we had lots to do for the launch of my Christmas play dough range and because of end of term exhaustion after recovering from Covid, coughs and colds.
This week has involved lots of chilling out, play dough time and movies at home because Teddy and Florence have had a cold. I think it’s inevitable that Florence will pick everything up in Reception after not being exposed to many viruses the past two years.
Despite the colds we did have a few local outings that were really nice, especially as we were lucky with the weather. For the first time we all (minus Finlay) walked the city walls. It was such a lovely Autumnal day and they did well to walk the whole thing. We learnt some interesting historical facts and got a different view of the city. There really is some interesting gardens backing onto the city walls, so it was fun to have a nosey!
Towards the end of the week we used Halloween as a theme to keep the kids occupied. They watched the usual kids halloween films, decorated themselves with spooky tattoos and nail art and carved their pumpkins.
Dougie also had plenty of time on his hands as he put together a hilariously freaky costume for Daisy.
We managed to get out and trick or treat around our block. Everyone made such an effort on our military patch and we chatted to neighbours and the kids got a huge sweetie haul!
I’m now looking ahead to November and I’m really quite relieved it’s the end of October as it hasn’t been the best month for us. I’m looking forward to the calmness of this month, some routine and hopefully being more organised before we get to the the craziness of December!

Oh my goodness Dougie excelled himself in the costume department that is brilliant. Sorry to hear the little ones have not been well. The husband has a cold as do the boys, I keep making them test lol! But so far it is just a cold.
It looks like you had a fab Halloween! We didn’t do anything – I’m not a big fan and the boys didn’t ask to do anything this year so we gave it a miss! Walking the city walls looks fun – we haven’t been to York since the boys were really little, it would be lovely to go again sometime.
