Sports can hone the motor skills of your children. Not only that, but sports can increase physical strength and it can also help them to learn some valuable lessons in sharing and friendship in life. Getting your children interested in sports is super important if you want them to have a well-rounded education and you want them to be as physically active as possible.
The best part is that there are so many options when it comes to sports that it’s very easy to find something that your children are going to love. Sports give your children the chance to incorporate regular activity into their lives, and it also gives them the chance to socialise outside of their in-school friendship circles.
From advanced Junior Golf camps to cheerleading, children of all ages and all genders can pick which sport they like the most and give it their all. If you want your children to be more physically active through sports, we’ve got some of the best ways below that you can help to spark their interest.

- Lead by example and choose a sport yourself. If you love to golf, then getting your children involved in golf is one of the best things you can do! Not only will they see you getting involved in something fun, but they also want to join you and be a part of that. Teaching them how to play and finding out which sport they are most interested in is a good way to bond with your children, and you can do that with more than golf. Having a basketball hoop in the home, putting a goal in the back for some soccer, or getting out there and ice skating are all great ways to lead by example.
- Watch games together. Flipping the TV over to a basketball or football game is a good way to get your children interested in sports. They might see something that they really enjoy, and want to be involved. Whether they are girls or boys, they can get involved in any sport that they like, so always encourage an interest in any sport that they feel that they are interested in.
- Give them a chance to choose. When your child is ready, show them all of their options & them up for an after-school programme or a team local in your area. Let them choose whichever sport they want so they don’t feel forced because if you push them into it, this can backfire on you. Don’t choose their sport for them, especially when they can choose something that they really want to pursue.
- make it fun. Sports should be something that’s fun. Yes, it can be competitive but it shouldn’t seem like a chore. Make sure that there is no pressure on them to be good at the sport, or even play it right because the whole idea of getting involved in a team sport is to learn how to do it. Being pushy only turns them off the idea of getting involved, so make sure that you are encouraging but not pressurising. Children will learn how to do it in time but make it fun to maintain their interest.
