Washing the car is the ultimate Saturday morning activity. But if you’re a parent, you’ve probably never thought about what it could teach your kids.
If that sounds like you, this post can help. It explores everything that washing the car can teach your kids, and why it is such a good idea to get them involved whenever you whip out the pressure washer and shammies.

Responsibility
The first thing it teaches them is responsibility. By giving them such an Expensive and essential item to clean it can give them a real sense of responsibility.
When kids are assigned to washing cars, they feel more responsible for them. They know that doing chores is a part of life and something they should accept.
Work Ethic
Washing cars is also something highly associated with a strong work ethic. Kids that are okay with scrubbing, rinsing and drying a vehicle are also usually okay with working hard and school and doing well in their careers in later life and can plant the seed that grows into a strong desire to do what life demands.
Patience
At the same time, washing the car can also teach kids patience. It isn’t always something you can do in five minutes. It takes time.
Furthermore, rushing when washing a car rarely works out how people expect. While it might look wet, it isn’t always clean and when it dries, there are all sorts of nasty stains to deal with.
Environmental Awareness
On top of this, there is the environmental awareness that car washing brings. For example, suppose that you need replacement parts for your pressure washer. Instead of throwing the whole unit out and buying a new one, you can simply replace the defective part and start using it again, eliminating the waste. You can also teach kids about the virtues of saving water or using nature-friendly cleaning products on vehicles.
Teamwork
Then there’s the teamwork aspect. Kids who wash cars can learn skills on how to get along with the people around them. Always helpful if siblings have to bond and work together closely, as it could strengthen their relationship by working towards a common goal, Perhaps one child will vacuum the interior while an other could polish the wheels–give them the responsibility to work it out together.
Attention To Detail
Car washing also sometimes imparts the desire to pay attention to detail. As discussed, just throwing a bucket of water over a car isn’t really going to get it squeaky clean. What’s required is a keen eye and attention to detail to make the whole chassis look spick and span.
Accomplishment
Finally, car washing gives kids a sense of accomplishment. While it might be hard work, once the vehicle is clean, they can stand back and feel proud of what they’ve accomplished. In turn, this can make them feel more confident and willing to take on other projects.
