April Activities for Kids ~Seasonal Play

I have really enjoyed compiling April activities for kids ~Seasonal play ideas as it’s heavily influenced by Easter and spring play ideas. If you have a little one who loves anything to do with bunnys or chicks then read on. Also if you have an older child there is a few actives such as the easter trail mix, bunny wrap and bunny jar that they could independently create.

It can be tricky to incorporate activities and crafts for all ages but as a mum of 4 with reasonable age gaps parenting a teenager to a preschool aged child I would advise that often the activities I organise for the little ones is often met with interest from the older ones or they enjoy helping me set it up or even run the activity.

In this April activities for kids post there is a range of activities that can be done indoors and outdoors. I have included sensory play, baking and crafting ideas. I will start of this post with some food activity ideas.

April Activities for Kids

Birds Nests

This was a recipe that came in the kids RSPB magazine and we tried it out and all really enjoyed the results. I would say that as there are no refined sugars it makes it a healthier snack or breakfast option. We put honey greek yoghurt into the nests and top with raspberries and blueberries

All you need is

• 100g Oats
• 35g seeds
• 30g chopped nuts (optional)
• 50g Honey
• 50 g Unsalted Butter plus greasing
• 1tsp vanilla extract
• Yoghurt
• Fruit
• Muffin tray

Bunny Wrap

This is a perfect lunchtime treat for your littles. You can also go one step further and pop the wrap in the toaster to eat it warm. Our youngest was delighted when she was presented with her bunny wrap.

I have included a step by step image to make the bunny food wrapping easier to follow.

All you need is

Large tortilla wrap

Sandwich fillings -we used cheese

Fruit and vegetables to decorate the bunny’s features.

Bunny Jar

This was a craft I thought would be perfect for a capable tween or alternatively younger children with some assistance. They make really lovely Easter gifts. Please note I suggest adding bicarbonate of soda to acrylic paint. This just makes the paint thicker and fluffier to give a good thick coverage and texture over the jar lid and ceramic bunny figure.

All you need is

• Pretty jam jar
• Ceramic bunny / Easter decoration
• Aryllic paint
• 1-2 tsp bicarbonate of soda
• Hot glue gun
• Mini eggs

Easter Trail Mix

We love our trail mixes and have made a Halloween, Christmas and Valentines version so far. This time we’ve done a pastel coloured Easter version. These mixes can be made with a range of sweet and salty snacks, cereal, chocolate and / or sweets.

We used a big bag of sweet and salty popcorn and added in mini marshmallows for bunny tails, Malteser rabbits, smarties, mini eggs and strawberry cheesecake Flipz pretzels.

Nature Decorations

This was probably my favourite craft of this April activities for kids edition. I just cut up and reused an Amazon cardboard package. What I love about activities such as these is you can really extend the activity by combining a nature hunt to gather and collect flowers and leaves. You could always combine it with my scavenger hunt featured later in this post.

Simply cut out egg shapes and add the animal features with the foliage you’ve gathered. Hose fun making different shapes and spring animals.

Outdoor and Sensory Play

I have placed outdoor and sensory activities together as my sensory activities are suited to being outdoors this month.

Bird Seed Sensory

This is one activity we have done before on the blog but I wanted to include it again. It’s handy to do it on a tuff tray or tub in the garden because if there are any spillages the birds will happily come and tidy up!

All you need is

• Bird seed
• Plastic eggs
• Nests
• Chicks
• Scoops, pots and spoons

Spring pastel Oobleck

Last month we had great fun with mud oobleck, so this month we incorporated some spring colours into it with some food colouring. You can add in some rubber ducks or plastic bugs or animal.

We also had a basin of soapy water to wash the toys off which appeals to little ones and again extends the activity. This activity is also perfect for mud kitchen play.

Rain Gauge

With the saying April showers here in the UK, I thought it a perfect time to do an experiment by making a rain gauge. My younger ones will enjoy seeing it fill up and it’s a good way to reinforce counting and measuring for early years.
