Everyday Habits That Everyone Should Try Out

Everyday Habits That Everyone Should Try Out

Everyday habits that everyone should try out- a cup of coffee with some books on a bed

Whether on an individual basis, or with regards to our families, we all generally want to do our best, have the most positive experience we can over the course of our everyday lives, and ensure that we maximise our potential.

There are all sorts of different things that people do in order to help organise their lives and ensure that they are able to head in a positive, optimistic and productive direction – but, when all is said and done, the power of everyday habits is easily one of the most significant factors to consider.

According to writers such as James Clear, author of the book “Atomic Habits,” even making a point of ticking off just a small handful of micro-habits a day can have the ability to completely transform the course of our lives over time – and it’s worth considering that the practices that we repeat every day really do tend to have a powerful cumulative effect.

So, here are a handful of everyday habits that everyone should try out.

Reading a book before bed

There are many fantastic benefits to reading books on a regular basis, ranging from the fact that they can help us to step into incredibly rich, deep, and intricate worlds of the imagination, to the fact that reading is one of the best ways of helping us to consider different ideas, and encounter new perspectives.

Spending a bit of time reading a book before bed each night can be a fantastic practice to take up, both for the benefits of reading already listed, and also for the fact that reading can be an excellent way of helping to calm the mind, detach us from the more stimulating distractions of TV and Internet, and get us ready for a good night’s rest.

Of course, it’s probably a good idea to keep a few basic points in mind when picking which book to read before bed.

Anything especially dark, heavy, or sombre, is likely to not be a great pick as it might disturb your sleep, cause you to have nightmares, and just make you feel miserable when you should really be getting into a more serene and positive state of mind.

Books that are serious page turners might also be better set aside for afternoons and weekends, so that you don’t end up staying up excessively late to find out how the next twist resolves.

Of course, If you find that your eyes are struggling when you’re trying to read, that might be a sign that you need glasses. If you just need to buy a new pair, the best way to do it might be online.

Practising a daily review each evening

Many people find themselves more or less “drifting” from day to day, in something of a haze – with one day seeming to blend into the next, and time flying by at a rapid pace.

In order to live in a more intentional manner, and ensure that you aren’t passing your days aimlessly, practising a “daily review” each evening before bed can be a very powerful habit to adopt.

While there are many different practices you could adopt here, the basic premise is that you spend a while replaying the events of the day in your mind from the moment you woke up until the present moment, and then reflect on where you felt like you behaved properly, where you felt like you behaved poorly, and how you plan to improve things going forward.

This practice can lead to enhanced well-being, as well as a more conscious and fulfilling life.

Taking up a daily yoga or stretching routine

There are a huge number of benefits associated with regular stretching, and with practices such as yoga and Pilates in particular.

Over the course of day-to-day life, it’s quite normal for our bodies to not go through their full range of motion, and for certain muscles to end up tightening as a result – and this is especially true in today’s world where we often spend a huge amount of our time sitting down.

A regular stretching practice can help to protect joints, alleviate certain forms of chronic pain, allow for easier breathing, enhance energy levels, and more.

Additionally, a daily stretching practice can really help to alleviate stress, work off excess nervous energy, and can serve as a straightforward way for you to get out of your own head for a while and shift your awareness away from the workday, and whatever might be on your mind.

I hope you found these everyday habits that everyone should try out helpful. If you have any other tips, we would love to hear from you in the comments box below.
