Rainy May activities with Living Arrows 19/52 (2021)

“You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth” Oh my days how is it May with this weather! I know it’s been a topic most of us have been talking about since May started but it really should be a bit warmer by now! With this rainy May weather we have taken to hibernating and picking rainy day activities except from dog walks.

rainy may activities with a small child cracking an egg in a cup whilst baking

Flo and I took to baking in the kitchen. I do enjoy a baking session when the weather is dull and I have the time to have a little assistant. I always feel like it’s a hygge thing to do.

Rainy may days with a small girl zesting a lemon into a baking bowl

I was so impressed by Flo’s egg cracking skills. She asks for eggs most days now we have chickens so she’s getting a real dab hand at cracking eggs independently.

She also was pretty efficient at zesting the lemon and as always licked the bowl clean. I’m so glad I get to document moments like these on here. These are the little moments I will look back on fondly.

This week Daisy enjoyed being back at Scouts for the first time in over a year. I’m quite pleased that Beavers and Scouts are only meeting fortnightly at the moment. This means we’ve not been thrown too much into a complicated week of after school clubs and to be honest I would be happy for fortnightly meet-ups going forward.

The kids haven’t spent quite so much time outdoors after school this rainy May week as we have had sudden cold heavy downpours and even hail at various points in the afternoon. It’s felt like Winter and Autumn most days. Thankfully Sunday was dry and slightly warmer so we managed to get outdoors without a coat which kind of makes up for the hibernation.

We walked down by the river and Teddy found some of his favourite spots to stop and climb various fallen trees. He kept stopping to pick me flowers as he’s learning all about flowers at school and they also put some paper boats on the river to see if they would travel downstream. Rusty found this amusing and kept taking them back out the river and destroying them, much to Florence’s disgust!

It’s probably a good thing we have been taking it easy this weekend as we’re all feeling the middle of term exhaustion after not being used to being in routine for this many weeks! We have been back at school for 4 weeks since Easter and we’re all feeling it.

I also got my first vaccine this weekend and so didn’t want to plan any more than a long dog walk in case I felt unwell. I’m typing this the day after my vaccine and thankfully I still feel fine other than a slightly sore arm. I felt a little emotional getting it done but managed to hold back a tear. You still just never know when the pandemic will creep up on you and take your emotions by surprise do you?!

Fingers crossed more warmth is on the way for the daytime and the rainy May weather can be reserved for overnight.

Have a good week all, love Charlotte x

Hasn’t the weather been so grim! Hard to believe it compared to last year’s glorious spring. Glad to hear you’re doing okay after your vaccine. I understand what you mean about it being an emotional event.

The weather has been so pants recently. I love that Flo cracks eggs – ours have tried a couple of times and absolutely hate it! I’m now chief egg cracker! x

There is definitely exhaustion here too. I am not sure if its the weather or just so much on all of a sudden. Love the photo of Teddy with his nerf! I am always up for baking.
