With half term a little later for us up here, I’m only now just thinking about our plans for the week. As we only have a week off, we will definitely need a few slow mornings to recuperate from a long term. We have National Trust membership, so we can always pop somewhere for a few hours to get that balance of being out and being at home right.
So without further ado, here are the events and days outs that have caught my eye. We won’t be able to do all of them, due to time and financial constraints, but we will be ticking a few off the list.
RHS Harlow Carr – Harrogate
Follow a spooky Room on the Broom trail around the gardens and participate in workshops, storytelling and creepy crafting. Plus if you’re not a member of the RHS, kids go free half term week if you download a voucher from their website here Half Term at RHS Harlow Carr
My 2 older ones in particular think this sounds spooktacular – Pirate vs Zombies halloween experience. They cannot wait to discover what the burnt-out wing at Castle Howard will present and, of course the daily battle between the two teams!
National Railway Museum
Hands-on interactive future engineers event, plus the Flying Scotsman is back.

Balloon Tree Farm near York – So many pumpkins to chose from, plus great food and a cute play park.
Spilmans Cafe and Pick your own in Thirsk
Birchfield Family Dairies – Harrogate
Minskip Farm Shop- Near Boroughbridge – Pumpkin carving, face painting, slime making and apple bobbing to mention just a few of the activities on offer.
Whether you want to explore the spooky history that Whitby is steeped in or just go and blow the cobwebs away at the beach.
I hope that this gives you a few ideas for entertaining the family this half term and a few that are suitable for wet weather, and also some activities that tick that pumpkin carving off your to do list!
