6 Ways To Make Your Garden More Enjoyable In The Winter

6 Ways To Make Your Garden More Enjoyable In The Winter

Gardens are fantastic in the summer. Dining al fresco, water fights, and lounging in the sun are all fun activities that everyone can enjoy.

But come the winter things change substantially. Gardens often go unloved for months on end, without providing their owners with any value.

The purpose of this post is to help you change that. We look at all the ways you can eke more value from your garden over the colder months of the year.

Add Garden Lighting

Given how dark it gets in the winter, adding garden lighting can help you get significantly more use. Extending the evening with powerful LEDs or lanterns means you can continue to use it in the evening and see what you are doing, even when the sun goes down.

Various attractive lighting options include string or series lighting, which always looks great, or garden-specific lighting. Make the light soft and welcoming to encourage you to get outside.

Use A Windbreak

If you want to use your garden in the winter, it also makes sense to invest in a windbreak. These help to block out strong winds and make it more comfortable to enjoy time outside.

The best windbreaks complement your garden’s theme and landscaping. Adding this protective layer can be an excellent way to create stunning outdoor living spaces.

Use Potted Plants And Containers

You can also try adding potted plants and containers to your garden. These vessels protect vulnerable plants in the winter, helping them survive and thrive, even through harsh frosts. You can bring plant pots into more sheltered areas before transplanting them when the warmth arrives again in the spring.

Add A Fire Pit

Outdoor fire pits are the focal point in winter gardens. These provide the warmth you need to encourage you to spend more time outside. Fire pits are great around Christmas or New Year when you want to get outside and enjoy the fireworks.

Adding a fire pit is straightforward. But, ideally, you want something that merges with your landscaping and hardscaping. Building a fire pit into your patio is an excellent way to give your garden flow and help it make visual sense.

At the same time, you’ll want to add plenty of garden seating for yourself and your guests. Position it just right in relation to the fire pit, ensuring you get close enough to the fire to feel warm, but not so close that you feel uncomfortable or burn.

These days, you can get outdoor furniture that feels similarly comfortable to what you might have indoors in your living room. These items look great and are a wonderful upgrade over iron or wood.

Add A Bird Feeder

Finally, adding a bird feeder to your garden helps the birds stick around for longer and improves biodiversity over the winter. It also means that more birds will survive until the spring. Add birdseed mixes and fat balls to your bushes and trees to keep them going.

We hope that these 6 Ways To Make Your Garden More Enjoyable In The Winter have been helpful for transforming your outdoor space all year round!
