“You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth” This week I had a chat with Florence about what we could do in the way of exploring York. As we live outside of the city our usual go-to adventures are out in the countryside. Yet the wet weather prompted me to ask Florence what different days out she would like to do with me on her nursery days. She requested a visit to soft play, the library and go to a museum like Peppa pig.
I decided to brave soft play on a very wet Thursday. I haven’t been in soft play since the end of 2019 and can’t say I have missed it that much! We did have a fun hour or so until it got too busy and we left. Seeing her happy face did really make it worth it!
On the weekend we pre-booked the DIG museum which we were really impressed with (I will write up a proper review on it soon). It was really well run, interactive, quiet and full of interesting artefacts. The kids got a plastic trowel and a knee pad for digging and were set to work clearing the sanitised rubber grains to uncover artefacts from Medieval, Roman, Viking and Victorian periods. What I loved the most was Daisy really threw herself into it all; reading the facts to the younger ones and discovering interesting objects. In this pic she uncovered what she thought was a hand but was actually a foot. They were keen archaeologists for an hour!
After the museum we had a short walk into York Shambles. We took them into the Harry Potter shop – ‘The shop that must not be named’. Teddy and Flo were really excited by the wand cabinet but we didn’t buy anything as it’s all a bit pricey to shop on a whim. Definitely one for when they have some birthday money saved up.
Lastly after all our exploring in York on Saturday we had a lovely walk out in the Howardian Hills with friends. The kids walked a good 5+ miles as they had friends to chat with and keep them going. We also realised just how much all the fields have grown and the trees have turned leafy green.
I couldn’t resist stopping and snapping Teddy and Flo in the rapeseed field but they were a little busy to pose so it was a very quick snap before they ran off!

We have been trying to visit York for a couple of years now and have never quite made it – it’s so far from us but we have it pencilled in – and actually booked – for next April. So fingers crossed we make it x

York’s been on our list for a while especially the Harry Potter shop! Love the sound of the museum, something genuinely different. We’ve still not made it to a rapeseed field abc at this rate we won’t before it’s over!
